What We Think of the Crayola Color Wonder Kit

Remember how Humnoy has been crafty lately? Well, I finally figured out to get a kid-branded, too-expensive kit that they sell in any store. I caved and bought the Crayola Color Wonder kit. You’ve heard of it- it’s the one where you can color with markers without the mess! “Awesome! Rad,” right?

Well, here’s the low-down on this thing:

The pros: It truly is mess-free.

The special markers only mark on the special paper that comes with it.

The cons: You can only use it only on special paper.

I bought the kit at Albertsons for $7.99 and it comes with four markers and 15 sheets of special paper. Doing the math, I estimate each sheet is worth $0.26/each given that half the worth is split between the special markers and special paper.

$7.99/2 = $3.99
$3.99/15 sheets = $0.26/each paper

At that rate, replacing packs of special paper to get use out of these made-for-Color-Wonder markers would be pretty costly. Thankfully, Humnoy is a simple child and has colored on one piece of special paper the last two days. At that rate, I won’t need to go search for replacement packs anytime soon.

The final verdict: It’s a great concept and is keeping our doodling toddler (and the occasional doodling Dada) happy for the moment. I enjoy there’s no mess to clean up and Humnoy can draw on himself all he wants. I may research for a bulk bundle pack of replacement papers since it is such an interesting product.

Do you think it’s worth it? What could be used as an alternative?

  1. We like the mess free too….but it is expensive to replace the paper! And Chase likes to draw on every single sheet once only to go on to the next. This is even in regular coloring books. Our alternative is crayons with Magic Eraser fully stocked! That thing is a life saver! –I used to not have to worry about it (Chase actually would ask for paper…but lately here he has decided furniture and walls are more his style!) So, yeah, Magic Eraser is a must have. Finger painting is a favorite here as well too. Outside is best! But at the table works too as long as the boy gets straight to the tub afterwards!

  2. Best invention ever! I bought a kit meant for the car. Awesome for travel! No mess and happy kids! We also have the color wonder finger paint, amazing! no mess what so ever!
